Bryan Cranston Also Singing and Dancing for Musical 'Rock of Ages'

Bryan Cranston / Rock of Ages

Though he'll be a force to reckon with as the villain the forthcoming remake of Total Recall, actor Bryan Cranston may be belting out some tunes and putting on his dancing shoes for his next role. Variety reports the Emmy-winning star of "Breaking Bad" has landed a role in Adam Shankman's big screen adaptation of the Broadway musical Rock of Ages. Cranston will play the mayor, who is convinced to abandon the "sex, drugs and rock-n-roll" lifestyle of the Sunset Strip and introduce "clean living" into the area. Here's hoping Cranston will be involved in some sort of musical number, but I don't know if that was part of the original.

On Cranston's casting announcement, Shankman commented: "Bryan Cranston is one of my favorite actors alive, and I cannot believe that I have the great fortune to be working with him on this project." Damn. Shooting is set to begin on the musical next month with an eye towards releasing the film on June 1st, 2012, so we've still got a ways to go. With an all-star cast that includes Tom Cruise, Russell Brand, Alec Baldwin, Paul Giamatti, Julianne Hough, Catherine Zeta-Jones and more belting 80's rock tunes, this should be quite a fun musical to look forward to during the summer next year. Impressed yet?
