What Governor Cuomo's Butchered Budget Means for New York's Arts (ARTINFO)
ARTINFO - Last week, freshly elected New York Governor Andrew Cuomo unveiled his proposed 2011-2012 budget, which, if approved, would cut overall state spending for the first time in 15 years. In a post-game report, the New York Times likened Cuomo to a butcher wielding a "budgetary meat cleaver." The state arts budget wasn't spared the trimming: the governor proposed a flat 10 percent cut to all arts funding — and some arts advocates are crying foul.
