Jeremy Renner Developing Steve McQueen Biopic Under New Banner

Steve McQueen / Jeremy Renner

Though the actor is already taking Hollwood by storm by playing Hawkeye in The Avengers, a new agent presumed to assume the franchise in Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, and the man to lead franchise spin-off The Bourne Legacy, it looks like Jeremy Renner is just getting warmed up. In addition to his recent voice casting for Ice Age: Continental Drift, Risky Biz now reports the actor is forming his own production company with actor-turned-filmmaker Don Handfield. And with that new banner, called The Combine, they will develop a biopic about actor Steve McQueen with Renner already planning to star in the film as well.

We Own the Night writer and director James Gray will script the feature which will be based on two different books: Portrait of an American Rebel and also The Life and Legend of a Hollywood Icon, both by Marshall Terrill. Newcomer Ivan Zacharias will make his feature directorial debut with the project that also has The Hurt Locker producer Greg Shapiro and Black Swan producer Brian Oliver behind the project. I have to say, as much risk for overexposure Renner has going on now, playing "The King of Cool" from such films as The Great Escape and Bullitt seems like quite a stellar match. After missing out on Oscar wins (he was nominated for The Town and The Hurt Locker) maybe this could be the film to finally get the trophy in his hand. What do you think?
