Ben Kingsley is Also Set to Join Sacha Baron Cohen in 'The Dictator'

Ben Kingsley

Just recently we learned that Anna Faris, Kristen Wiig and Gillian Jacobs were in the running to snag the female lead in The Dictator, a new comedy from Borat collaborators Sacha Baron Cohen and director Larry Charles. In addition, TV actor Jason Mantzoukas ("The League") was also in talks to play a character alongside Cohen. It turns out his character is one of two Middle Eastern characters who somehow factor into the story about a heroic dictator who risks his life to ensure that democracy never comes to the country he so lovingly oppressed. Variety now reports that Ben Kingsley will play the other foreigner. Awesome!

In the film, Cohen is supposed to play both the titular leader and a goat herder, but it's not clear how the two characters will interact within the story. Either way, it should be quite an interesting comedy full of satire since it's said to be inspired by Saddam Hussein's best-selling novel Zabibah and the King. Kingsley addition to the cast is certainly in interesting one, but not necessarily surprising since the actor just finished working with Cohen on Martin Scorsese's adaptation of Hugo Cabret. I'd like to know more about the story, but I'm certainly intrigued so far. We'll be sure to keep you guys updated on this. Sound good?
