After hearing earlier this month that Zach Galifianakis (The Hangover) would not be able to join Ryan Reynolds in the adaptation of the Dark Horse graphic novel R.I.P.D. (or Rest In Peace Department), I'll admit that I was a little disappointed. However, I'm happy with the development of the project once again as Deadline reports Jeff Bridges is now in talks to join the supernatural action comedy from director Robert Schwentke (RED). Bridges would be playing Reynolds partner in the story of a dead cop who makes a deal to work one hundred years in divine law enforcement in exchange for a shot at finding who killed him.
Producer Neal Moritz previously described this as "a buddy action comedy that follows Reynolds' recently deceased cop character and a gunslinger who has been dead for hundreds of years as they find themselves "patrolling the deadbeat... reporting to one boss. Yes that boss." I like the idea of Bridges playing a wise-cracking officer who's been hunting spirits since the 1800s alongside Reynolds, especially if it ends up being some kind of combination of Rooster Cogburn from True Grit and The Dude from The Big Lebowski. It's still not clear when this project will get off the ground since Reynolds is so busy, but I'm definitely looking forward to it. How about you?
