Must Watch: Colin Farrell Bares Teeth in First Trailer for 'Fright Night'

Fright Night Trailer

We've seen some glimpses at the remake of the original 1985 film, but now a first official trailer for Fright Night has finally arrived via IGN. This modern take on the 80's horror take thrusts Anton Yelchin, Christopher Miintz-Plasse, Toni Collette and Imogen Poots into a sticky situation as they found out Jerry (Colin Farrell), the new resident in their neighborhood is a vampire. This looks like a really cool contemporary update of the original film, but I'm not sure about the need for 3D in such a literally dark toned film. Sadly there is only a brief glimpse of David Tennant, but check out the first full trailer below! ...

Ron Howard's 'Dark Tower' Adaptation Staying at Universal After All

Dark Tower

Earlier this month we heard that Ron Howard's epic adaptation of Stephen King's Dark Tower series might be in trouble at Universal, but could end up going into turnaround and get made at another studio. Well, it appears the axe has been avoided this time as THR reports Universal is moving forward with the project that includes three films and two seasons of television to tell the sprawling story of Roland Deschain, the last living member of a knightly order of gunslingers, and humanity’s last hope to save a civilization that will crumble unless he finds the Dark Tower. However, it sounds like the project will be delayed a bit. ...

Udo Kier Makes His Debut in Another Teaser for Nazi Sci-Fi 'Iron Sky'

Iron Sky Teaser Trailer

We Come in Peace! Blind Spot Pictures is finally ready to unleash their Nazis-on-the-Moon movie Iron Sky, with funding and filming now complete and the ever-important (and expensive) post-production visual effects work underway. We've been talking about this film for years as its been in the works for a long time, but THR is reporting that it now has an official April 2012 release date, along with VFX being done by Energia VFX, and a spiffy teaser poster as well. They've also debuted an awesome new teaser featuring Udo Kier as Wolfgang Höss and a quick glimpse at some impressive "Meteorblitzkrieg" effects at the end. Enjoy! ...

First Fun Teaser Poster for Disney's 'The Muppets' Movie Discovered

The Muppets

They're Closer Than You Think. Many fans are getting excited to see The Muppets movie when it finally returns to the big screen this fall, but Disney hasn't officially started up any direct marketing yet. However, Ain't It Cool News posted a photo snapped of the first official teaser poster we've seen for The Muppets that was apparently found on display at a theater in Montreal. It shows Kermit and Miss Piggy and even Fozzie Bear and Gonzo. I'm not sure why some are calling this so strange, as I think it just looks like a fun twist on normal Hollywood posters but with the Muppets. Check out the low res photo of The Muppets poster below. ...

Gareth Edwards Not Directing the 'Monsters' Sequel for Vertigo Films

Monsters

Wait - there's a sequel to to the cult sci-fi hit Monsters in the works? Apparently so. ScreenDaily (via The Playlist) is reporting details on Monsters 2 coming from the Cannes Film Festival, as Vertigo Films is currently working on early pre-sales and financing. Unfortunately, writer/director Gareth Edwards will not be returning, as he has moved on to helm Godzilla for Legendary out in Hollywood. Instead, "emerging hotshots" Brent Bonacorso, of a short called West of the Moon, and Jesse Atlas will take the reigns this time, with Edwards and the film's co-star Scoot McNairy at least executive producing. Very interesting news. ...

Must Watch: First Full Trailer for B&W Silent Cannes Film 'The Artist'

The Artist Trailer

This is a must watch for a reason - it looks phenomenal. Premiering at the Cannes Film Festival tomorrow morning (I will be seeing it then) is a film called The Artist, a black-and-white silent film from French filmmaker Michel Hazanavicius about the silent film era in Hollywood. Most probably haven't heard about this, but I'll be damned if it doesn't look amazing, not just a wonderful homage to these kind of films, but a complete transposition back to 20s and early days of cinema. It stars two French actors - Jean Dujardin and Bérénice Bejo - but also features John Goodman and James Cromwell. I cannot wait to see this! ...

Paul Feig's 'Bridesmaids', Another Take - A Female Writer's Reaction

Bridesmaids

Girls say the F word too. And now the whole world knows it thanks to Bridesmaids, directed by Paul Feig and produced by Judd Apatow, a funny but far from perfect take on the raunchy adult comedy from the perspective of the ladies. I wanted to take a moment to talk about my thoughts on the film following Jeremy's review from earlier in the week. I do want to affirm that I did enjoy Bridesmaids; it was, after all, the first summer movie I had the chance to catch (sorry Thor) and I laughed a lot, but as a screenwriting student fresh off the graduation boat I have to say I was a bit disappointed. ...

FilmDistrict/Sony Picks Up Rian Johnson's Sci-Fi 'Looper' for Release

Rian Johnson's Looper

Great news for Rian Johnson - his upcoming science fiction film Looper now has a home. Deadline & THR are reporting that Endgame Entertainment and FilmDistrict are partnering for the theatrical release. They will be releasing it in the US through Sony Pictures's TriStar, which sounds like it may actually get released by Sony proper and not the newly formed FilmDistrict. Looper is a time-travel action thriller that involves a killer (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) who works for the mob of the future. He, along with other Loopers, dispose of people that are sent from the future. This flick is already one of my most anticipated upcoming releases. ...

Indie Trailer Sunday: Very Early Promo Clip for 'Jodorowsky's Dune'

Jodorowsky's Dune Trailer

"For me [it] was not to make a picture, [but] something deeper, something sacred, something free, with new perspective." Okay, so this isn't necessarily a trailer, but it's essentially a trailer and is worth watching anyway. Following the news earlier in the week that a documentary called Jodorowsky's Dune, about the filmmaker's attempt to adapt the sci-fi novel, was officially in the works, Twitch has posted a promo clip featuring Alejandro Jodorowsky talking about it and it's pretty awesome to see. I just love the way this builds with him speaking and the way it ends. Now I'm even more excited to see the doc. Check it out below! ...

Cannes 2011 Review: Peter Chan's Awesome Martial Arts Film 'Wu Xia'

Peter Chan's Wu Xia

I love most martial arts movies, but there are a few in particular that stand out above others, like Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (which premiered in Cannes in 2000), and Wu Xia is one of those exceptional films. Now I know why Cannes chose to feature it. Wu Xia (being titled either Swordsmen and/or Dragon in English) is the latest film from Chinese director Peter Ho-Sun Chan, also of The Warlords a few years ago, and it's awesome. While it does have a few fantastic fight scenes, he never sacrifices story for spectacle, which pays off as it's a film that I enjoyed from start to finish and will definitely be revisiting in the future. ...
